Great Theaters in the Permian Basin

The Permian Basin, Midland, and Odessa particularly is fortunate to boast a collection of unique and eclectic theaters to screen movies or stage live theater. Here is a sample of such venues and what they offer. We at Rogers Lincoln think they are all great places to catch a show! more The Yucca Theater in Midland opened in 1929, as a movie and vaudeville house. The theatre is a Texas historic landmark and host to The Summer Mummers, Friday and Saturday nights, from the first weekend in June to Labor Day. The Yucca was fully restored in 1981 and seats 1,600. Big Sky Theatre is a three-screen drive-in movie theater conveniently located outside Midland on W Highway 80, just west of Loop 250.  It is open Wednesday through Sunday, playing two feature films on each screen normally starting after 7 PM. The box office opens at 6 PM. The venue allows outside food, but has a full-service grill/concession, offering everything from chicken finger dinners to charburger, and its specialty sandwich, the Chihuahua, plus other goodies like jalapeno poppers, funnel cakes, and homemade corn fritters. Big Sky is pet-friendly. Regal Tall City IMAX & RPX in Midland and Regal Permian Palace & IMAX in Odessa are the places to go if you are interested in experiencing the immersive viewing pleasure of an IMAX-format film in the Permian Basin. Once only scattered around the continent, IMAX theaters typically feature extra large and tall screens, high-resolution cinematography, and separate digital sound. The Permian Playhouse was founded in 1965 as a community theatre for Odessa. The Playhouse is dedicated to providing the community with high-quality, culturally-diverse, theatrical experiences and educational programs for children, adolescents, and adults. The Matrix In The Matrix, after Mister Anderson/Neo chooses the red pill in the 1999 science-fiction action thriller, he uses a black 1965 Lincoln Continental to move around inside the Matrix during his flight and fight with the Agents. The Lincoln Lawyer In The Lincoln Lawyer (2011), Matthew McConaughey’s defense lawyer Mikey Haller does not just use his 1986 Town Car to go from place to place; it is also his law-office-on-wheels as Haller does much of his work from the backseat of the chauffeur-driven luxury car, ensuring the Lincoln brand is always near the gripping storyline.
